Senior School

Year 4 to 8

At the age of 8 a boy moves into the Senior School where boys are split into two classes per year, depending on total numbers in any one year, with approximately 14 boys in each class. Each class is under the general care of a dedicated Form Teacher who is based in one classroom.

In preparation for their next step, the boys are introduced to other teachers for Science, History, Geography, French, Latin, Spanish, Religious Education, I.C.T, Art and Music. It is at this stage that all subjects necessary for the Common Entrance examination to Independent Schools begin.

A boy's curriculum is designed to move naturally towards the Common Entrance exam which is taken when a boy is aged 13 in Year 8. A number of boys may choose to sit the Kent Selection tests (11+) for which they are fully prepared by the school.  Over the past few years the school has had a 100 % pass rate at Common Entrance and over a 90% pass rate at 11+.

The Headmaster is always pleased to discuss the question of transfer to Secondary School. Following the Common Entrance examination at thirteen, many go on to Sevenoaks School, Tonbridge School, and other local independent schools. A few may progress to various independent boarding schools. We feel that the selection of the next school is critically important as it must be a school where your son will thrive.

Individual Needs
We recognise students have individual needs. The school has outstanding provision for extending very capable students as well as providing assistance to children that may experience difficulty with spelling, reading or writing. A qualified Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator is available to help with individual lessons and give advice as necessary.
