Trips

“I loved having hot chocolate around the fire. It was really yummy.” Felix, Reception

We recognise that learning is happening all the time and is not just confined to the classroom. Our day and residential trips form part of our ethos to educate the whole child. The trips enable all pupils to develop their skills and experience applying their knowledge to new situations outside of the classroom. They form an important part of the education offered at Solefield School and are an integral part of the curriculum.

Day trips start from Reception and continue through to Year 8. They are fun and stimulating and serve to augment the childrens’ learning. Residential trips start in Year 5 through to Year 8, and as well as being educational, they present the pupils with a wonderful opportunity to develop a measure of independence. Often, for many of the pupils, this will be their first taste of being away from home. Nurturing a sense of independence is a key part of delivering a rounded education.

The day trips are rich and varied and appropriate to the age of the child. A recent highlight has been an invitation to visit 10 Downing Street after pupils wrote and sent the Prime Minister an alternative election manifesto.  We are very fortunate to have a wealth of places on our doorstep, such as Gravesend Gurdwara, the largest in Europe and London is easily accessible for theatre and gallery trips. Closer to home, trips to Bodiam Castle, Hever Castle and Knole House enrich the childs’ knowledge and understanding of history.

Sometimes children just need to let off steam and for our pupils in the senior school, the annual choir and orchestra trip to Chessington World of Adventure is an absolute highlight.
