We are delighted to share that, once again this year, the achievements of Solefield pupils and their teachers have been recognised by the Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards as we pick up a 'highly commended' award. This year, our award is for ORIGINALITY IN TEACHING MUSIC AND THE ARTS. We have been recognised as, 'doing something very different and modern in education'.
The contributory factors to this award are:
- We have seen a 15% increase in instrument uptake of our pupils over 2 years
- Over 2 years, we had 85 music and drama lessons each week which has now increased to a wonderful 99 lessons a week!
- We have seen the quality of our choirs, bands and ensembles improve with the increased level of music and drama exposure and increase in music prevalence

- We have seen a rise in pupils taking up LAMDA 1 to 1 lessons and as a result we were selected to be a centre for exams. All of the pupils that have taken LAMDA exams achieved the staggering grade of Distinction
- In our Music and Drama Recitals, every boy in the year group does a solo performance whether playing a musical instrument or LAMDA drama piece. Since introducing the latter into our school, boys that would otherwise not perform a music piece, have had a chance to shine in a dramatic performance setting. It has really increased participation! - Our annual Art Exhibition exhibits artwork, sculpture and pottery from all pupils (we also invited our Solefield old boys back for a launch event to view our art exhibition as well as other teachers from local state schools)
- We even incorporate music into our Science lessons. View our ‘Jingle Bells’ performed using test tubes here!
