“Our son is thriving; the teachers are so friendly and approachable” Parent
Our Pre-Prep, for boys in Reception to Year 2, is housed in a separate, beautifully-resourced area of the school where they can enjoy a rich and varied learning environment to develop their skills and abilities, with their own outside learning space.
Individual form teachers are responsible for delivering the main areas of the curriculum; they are supported by a teaching assistant. Our staff to pupil ratio ensures we understand all the boys really well, and are able to support and challenge them as they develop into confident learners. For extra-curricular subjects, boys are taught by subject specialists. Boys study French, Art, Sport, Music and ICT with specialist teachers in specialist rooms. Children learn to play a particular instrument as part of their Music lessons every week, with Reception learning the violin! Science is taught in a very practical way with lots of experiments and explosions. Each child performs in a variety of plays and performances every year.
Children in Pre-Prep have two afternoons of sport and 2 timetabled PE lessons. The boys go swimming at the Sevenoaks School pool and enjoy our own Woodland School experience where they learn outdoor survival skills in our local woodland areas. Sports’ Day is also held at Sevenoaks School and is a wonderful occasion for all the family.
Boys also have the opportunity to go on a variety of trips such as visiting Godstone Farm and Leeds Castle, the Museum of Kent Life and a wellie walk in Knole Park amongst many others. Every year, we hatch ducklings and chicks as well as butterflies. In addition to this, we have Grandparents’ Day, visiting authors, World Book Day and Enrichment Weeks, all of which complement the boys’ learning and feed in to our values, encouraging our boys to be responsible world citizens.
We are very proud of this nurturing environment and our Year 8 prefects are part of this too. They work with younger pupils every day as their ‘class monitors’, listening to them read or helping with their work. Year 8 boys undergo training and don armbands at breaktimes to show that younger children can go to them for help if necessary.
The school day in Pre-Prep begins at 8.25am and finishes at 3.15pm. There are various clubs boys can attend after school. In addition to this, we offer Breakfast Club and After School Care from 7.30am until 6.00pm.
