Years 1 and 2 (KS1)
“Our child is thriving; the teachers are so friendly and approachable” Parent
Our Pre-Prep, for pupils in Reception to Year 2, is housed in a separate, beautifully-resourced area of the school where they can enjoy a rich and varied learning environment to develop their skills and abilities, with their own outside learning space.
Individual form teachers are responsible for delivering the main areas of the curriculum; they are supported by a teaching assistant. Our staff to pupil ratio ensures we understand all the pupils really well, and are able to support and challenge them as they develop into confident learners. For extra-curricular subjects, pupils are taught by subject specialists. Pupils study French, Art, Sport, Music and ICT with specialist teachers in specialist rooms. Children learn to play the recorder as part of their Music lessons every week. Science is taught in a very practical way with lots of experiments and explosions. Each child performs in a variety of plays and performances every year.
Children in Pre-Prep have one afternoon of sport and two timetabled PE lessons. The pupils go swimming at the Granville School pool and enjoy our own Woodland School experience where they learn outdoor survival skills in our local woodland areas. Sports’ Day is held at Sevenoaks School and is a wonderful occasion for all the family.
Pupils also have the opportunity to go on a variety of trips such as visiting Godstone Farm and Leeds Castle, a trip to London seeing the Transport Museum, Tower of London, Greenwich Maritime Museum and Cutty Sark, as well as the Museum of Kent Life and a wellie walk in Knole Park amongst many others. Every year, we hatch ducklings and chicks as well as butterflies. In addition to this, we have Grandparents’ Day, visiting authors, World Book Day and Enrichment Weeks, all of which complement the pupils’ learning and feed in to our values, encouraging our pupils to be responsible world citizens.
We are very proud of this nurturing environment and our Year 8 prefects are part of this too. They work with younger pupils every day as their ‘class monitors’, listening to them read or helping with their work. Year 8 pupils undergo training and are available at breaktimes to help younger children if necessary.
The school day in Pre-Prep begins at 8.15am and finishes at 3.30pm. There are various clubs pupils can attend after school (3.30 - 4.00pm), as well as a late class (3.30 - 4.00pm) for pupils waiting for older siblings to finish at 4pm.
In addition to this, we offer Breakfast Club and After School Care from 7.30am until 6.30pm (by arrangement).
