First Maths Challenge 2025
Year 3 and Year 4 got the opportunity to show off their mathematical skills in the 'First Maths Challenge' recently.
The children rose to the occasion and did not disappoint! They were tasked with answering a range of mathematical puzzles, problems and teasers all designed to stretch their logic, reasoning and number skills.
Across the two year groups, 25 children achieved a Bronze award, 9 earned Silver and 6 performed so well they merited a Gold, two of whom are in Year 3 and will be striving for a rare Full Marks Award next year.
Well done to all of the students involved and good luck in your respective challenges next year.

Junior Kangaroo 2025
Having performed so well in the Junior Maths Challenge (a competition aimed at Year 7 and Year 8 students), Ayaan M (6GC) qualified for the Junior Kangaroo. The questions in the Kangaroo are aimed at the top students nationally, based on the Year 8 curriculum and for Ayaan to have qualified is really some achievement. Ayaan did himself proud, answering many challenging problems correctly and only just missed out on securing a Bronze award. This stands him in great stead to go one better next year or the year after, in the knowledge that he has had a great mathematical foundation here at Solefield.
