Year 3 Explores Roman London

Mrs Cook

6th October 2026

Year 3 had a fabulous trip to Roman London on Tuesday, thanks to Mrs Rogan, who organised a wonderful day for us.

Our adventure began at Guildhall Yard, where we visited the remains of London’s Roman Amphitheatre. Before we had even stepped inside, we were treated to an unexpected piece of London pageantry as we watched the procession for the election of the Lord Mayor of the City of London. The children were fascinated to see the officials in their magnificent robes, complete with ceremonial swords!

At the Roman Amphitheatre, we explored fascinating artefacts and discovered what life would have been like in Roman Londinium. One of the highlights was reenacting a gladiator battle, complete with gladiators, Zeus and Athena! It was a brilliant way to bring our classroom learning to life.

After lunch, we headed to the London Mithraeum, home to the remains of the mysterious Temple of Mithras. We ventured underground and enjoyed an immersive experience using sights and sounds to imagine what it might have been like to visit the temple nearly 2,000 years ago.

Throughout the day, the children were able to see incredible artefacts discovered during archaeological digs in London and hear fascinating stories from archaeologists about how they were found and what they reveal about Roman life.

What a fantastic day of history, discovery and adventure – and a wonderful opportunity for Year 3 to experience Roman London brought to life!
