Head Boy's Act of Kindness

5th March 2021

Every Solefield boy in the school received a very thoughtful package in the post from our Head Boy, Finlay. The package contained a letter from Finlay, a handmade origami frog and some delicious chocolate! We ask Finlay all about how this idea came about.

1. What gave you the idea to do this for every Solefield boy?

I was feeling a little down and I remembered a book we used to read called 'How Full is Your Bucket?' The book says that if you fill someone else’s bucket it will also fill your own bucket.  I thought that was good advice and decided to do something for others. I enjoyed receiving Mrs. McClure’s letter and cress seeds in the post and so I thought I’d send packages of my own to cheer everyone up.

2. How many origami frogs did you make?

We made 145 origami frogs. We only needed 144, but one jumped into a cup of coffee and had to be thrown away!

3. Please tell us more about how you went about doing it all.

It was really a family effort.  It took a few weeks to make all of the frogs.  We kept the origami paper in the kitchen and just made a few every time we felt like it.  We kept a jar on the table and it slowly filled up!  Then we spent a Saturday putting the packages together. The names were probably the hardest part.  Coming up with 144 names was surprisingly difficult!

4. What first got you interested in origami?

I’ve always liked to do stuff with my hands.  A couple of years ago I found a how-to book on our shelf and I’ve been hooked ever since!

5. What will you most be looking forward to when you go back to school next week?

I’m most looking forward to hanging out with my friends and having the whole Solefield community back at it again!
