22nd November 2024

It is beginning to sound a lot like Christmas in Little Acorns! Nativity rehearsals are in full swing and we have had our first practice on the stage this week. The children are so excited to perform for you all on the 4th December!

The chilly weather hasn’t spoilt our fun, we had a lovely time exploring with magnifying glasses in Outdoor Learning on Monday and warmed up with some hot chocolate and a biscuit.

We also made some delicious porridge as part of our work on Goldilocks and the Three Bears – I’m sure the children would be happy to help make some for breakfast this weekend!

In phonics, we have been taking an initial look at blending three letter phonetic words using a programme on the smartboard.

Another busy, productive and fun filled week!

Congratulations!

Well done to Arthur for achieving a resilience award this week. You have worked so hard to learn how to put your coat on all by yourself, we are very proud of you!

Book of the week

We have started to read some Christmas stories this week, including one that talks about traditions from around the world – did you know that in Syria it is thought that children receive their gifts from one of the Wise Men’s camels?!

However, it was Julia Donaldson’s Stick Man that the children really fell in love with and we have had lots of interesting conversations about ice, snow and pooh sticks! We also set up a sinking and floating activity to show how stick man floated while other objects sank straight to the bottom. It is lovely to be able to follow and act on the children’s interests to support their learning.

Story Dough

In keeping with our focus on traditional tales and storytelling, we introduced the Little Acorns to Story Dough this week. Using the medium of playdough, the children are introduced to two characters, Noodle and Titch, who encourage them to let their creativity flow and come up with a narrative of their own whilst building on language, fine motor, mark making and imagination skills. It was wonderful to see how engaged and focused the children were, and the creations they came up with!

Something to look forward to

Next week we will be exploring our new ‘Elves workshop’ role play area!
