It has been a wonderfully Christmassy week in Little Acorns, filled with Nativity rehearsals, present wrapping and decorating the school Christmas tree! We wish you all restful weekend ahead of the very busy end of term.
Book of the week
This week we have been reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Not that many of the children were familiar with the tale but they have really taken it to heart. We have seen some budding architectural talents when designing different bridges from both plastic and wooden blocks, and the small world play in the Tuff Tray has rarely been without a visitor.
Next week we will be starting our Advent book calendar, we will unwrap one Christmas story a day to share as a class.
Our quote of the week
When we were at Outdoor Learning this week, Arthur looked up at the trees and declared ‘all the leaves have gone!’. You’re right Arthur, the park looked very different this week after Storm Bert!
A very special job
On Thursday, as the youngest class in the school, the Little Acorns had the privilege of decorating the school Christmas tree in the Old Library.
We had some music playing and the children really got into the Christmas spirit, with some hanging baubles at an astounding rate, while some others, particularly Lewis, were more interested in showing us their best dance moves! Zara, the youngest member of the Solefield Community, placed the star on the top.
It was a very special and festive way to spend the morning, and afterwards we read some Christmas stories together in the library. We think you will agree, it looks beautiful!
Elves at work
Our new role play area, the Christmas Toy Workshop, has been a hive of activity this week! There has been present wrapping galore and some beautifully written letters to Father Christmas. Role play is such an important part of the classroom environment for this age group. It allows children to practise and develop key skills, without feeling that it is ‘work’. Cutting, sticking, wrapping and tying has been a great workout to strengthen all those little fingers.
Something to look forward to
There is so much to look forward to next week but the highlight must be our Nativity performance on Wednesday!
