What a stunning week of weather we have enjoyed! The children have been outside at every opportunity, and it is fascinating to observe them using their imaginations, problem solving, building friendships and inventing games together.
We started the week den building on Monday, had a wonderful trip to the farm on Tuesday, and the swimmers finished the week in the pool on Friday. Another busy but happy week in Little Acorns. Wishing you all a restful Bank Holiday weekend.
Congratulations!
Huge congratulations to Ottilie who has been awarded a resilience award for showing amazing determination on her trip to the Lake District over the holidays. Ottilie climbed the mountain Catbells powered only by chocolate biscuits and her own two feet. Well done Ottilie, you are amazing!
Book of the week
In keeping with our theme of growing and spring animals, this week we have been reading ‘Mama, is it summer yet?’ by Nikki McClure. It is a beautiful book all about the signs of spring and summer and takes the children on a visual journey through the seasons. It really has felt like summer at school this week!
Our quote of the week
On the way back from swimming, Lewis spotted a ‘10’ speed sign, and said ‘10 - you can’t drive any faster than that!’. Absolutely Lewis!
Godstone Farm
We enjoyed a beautiful sunny day at Godstone Farm with Reception on Tuesday.
The children had the opportunity to feed sheep, goats and the most enormous pig! The meerkats were a particular favourite and after lunch there was the chance to get up close with a bearded dragon and pet a chicken. The remainder of the afternoon was spent playing in the farm's amazing adventure playground with most choosing to enjoy the sandpit - which was fitting, given the stunning weather!
The very quiet and sleepy bus ride home was testament to a great day had by all.
Please see the post on Tapestry for lots more pictures!

Focus of the week
This week our focus has been on plants and growing. This has been incorporated through all the children's areas of learning, ranging from planting sunflower seeds, looking at plants and roots through magnifying glasses, sounding out related vocabulary, and adding the correct number of sticker 'petals' to flowers in numeracy.

Solefield Independent Project
This term’s Solefield Independent Project is all about pets! If your child would like to draw a picture, make a playdoh model, or do some colouring in, either of their own pet, or one they would like to have, please do send it in to school. For every project submitted, the school will make a donation to a prize at the Dunrunnin Dog Show in June. This is the dog rescue centre where Mrs McClure’s beautiful greyhound Ruby was cared for.
Something to look forward to
We are excited about our VE Day picnic and celebrations on Thursday 8th May!
Reminders
*Names - Please could we ask that all snack boxes, water bottles and clothes are named. We are trying hard to make sure everyone returns home with the correct belongings, but it makes the job much easier if things are labelled! Many thanks for your help on this.
*Library books – Please can library books be returned on a Thursday so the children can choose something new in their library lesson.
