All the Little Acorns absolutely love using the interactive whiteboard in the classroom for drawing and mark making. In computing this week Mr Coston was encouraging the children to try and draw actual objects to create a piece of work together. This is what they came up with, and we think it is beautiful! It features a house, tree, flowers, Mr Coston and Miss Finlay. Well done everyone!
Book of the week
This week we have been reading ‘Tractor Ted in Springtime’ to round off our topic on planting and growing. This was a lovely addition to our non-fiction collection and the children have enjoyed learning the names and uses of lots of different pieces of farm machinery. We have also been looking at ‘Seed to Sunflower’, to support our introduction to lifecycles. The children planted some sunflower seeds last week, which we very much hope will burst into life soon!
Our quote of the week
Lewis did an amazing job of describing a Lego model he had built to his friends. ‘It is a police racing car. It was hard to build because of all the colours. It’s got a cool window, headlights and different tyres. The wheels are inside the tyres.’
Patterns!

In maths this week the children have been looking at patterns. We started by comparing socks, which caused much chatter and excitement! Lots of opportunities for noticing patterns have then been provided through fruits, vegetables and creating patterns using a variety of blocks and loose parts. You might be able to set your Little Acorn the job of pairing socks at the weekend!
VE Day
On Thursday we joined the rest of the school in celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day. In the morning, the children had fun colouring and making their own Union Jack flags. We then enjoyed a beautiful picnic lunch on the playground rounded off with an ice cream – including sauce and sprinkles!
