This week has flown by in a sunny haze! There have been so many highlights, a beautiful outdoor learning session, watching the Year 6 play, starting some sports day preparation, picnics in the outdoor classroom, and watching our caterpillars grow!

Wishing you all a restful weekend, and we look forward to seeing the children for the last week before half term!

Book of the week

We have read lots of lovely stories related to our new topic this week, both fiction and non-fiction. The children loved ‘The Snail and the Whale’, its rhyming verse lending itself perfectly to recall and repetition.

In French this week, we read the gorgeous ‘Monsieur Roscoe goes on holiday'. It's a fantastic book which lists vocabulary in both French and English providing a great opportunity to learn some new words ‘by osmosis' whilst enjoying the story. Reading the book on a beautifully warm afternoon whilst having a picnic in the outdoor classroom made this all the more fun!

Our quote of the week

There have been some fabulous comments from the children this week, here are just a few.
Debbie – ‘When I grow up, I’m going to have three babies.’

Ottilie – ‘Because a motorbike doesn’t have any sides or a roof, you have to wear a helmet so you don’t bump your head!’

Zara – ‘The caterpillars need their Mummy!’

Happy travels!

The children have loved our new topic all about travel this week.
It has been a great opportunity for them to share with their friends about trips they have been on and also their family heritage. What a well travelled bunch they all are!
Much of the week has been spent creating passports and role playing packing suitcases for trips all over the world! The little three seat trike has been the most popular mode of transport taking the Little Acorns as far away as the Antarctic!

We have looked in detail at France in the picture atlas and I was very impressed that some children could identify the Eiffel Tower! We debated the best things to buy from a boulangerie and who likes smelly cheese!

Having previously mastered answering the register in French, we have moved on to Italian and there have been lots of enthusiastic 'Ciao's' as we have moved around the school.

Outdoor Learning

We spent a beautiful afternoon in Knole Park at our weekly Outdoor Learning session on Monday.

The children were challenged to 'notice' details about their surroundings, from the sound different sticks made when they were being tapped, to the texture of moss and leaves and the shapes and shadows that the sunlight created shining through the trees.

We took iPads along to record our findings and bring an extra dimension to the learning experience.

It seems we have some budding wildlife filmmakers in our midst!

Something to look forward to

The home corner will be transformed into a Travel Agents next week. We can't wait to see where the children end up going!
