Half term is here and it has been another sunny week in Little Acorns. The children have been making the most of the outdoor area, building beds, castles and obstacle courses out of our new wooden blocks. They have also been cooking up some 'delicious' looking soup in the mud kitchen and honing their cycling skills on the bikes and trikes!

Those working at 'Solefield Travel' have had a particularly busy few days and Mrs Mack and I are very much looking forward to our trip to Mauritius...! We wish you all a happy and restful week.

A magical music lesson

It was only fitting that on National Meditation Day on Wednesday, Mrs Sage came and delivered a beautifully relaxing music lesson. The children enjoyed taking part in both a sound bowl and sound gong exercise.

They really tried hard to calm themselves and focus on the sounds and images – not easy for such little ones. We took the opportunity to discuss how everyone felt in their bodies before and after the activity. It is such an important skill for young children to be able to name their emotions and notice what helps them to feel regulated.

Book of the week

This week we have been reading 'The Suitcase', by Daniela Sosa. It is a gorgeous publication about a little boy going to stay with his grandparents, who are apparently no fun at all! When he discovers a suitcase full of old treasures, his opinions soon change. The story was a great opportunity to continue the work we have been doing on 'noticing' details. Please do ask your child about the book and see what they can recall.

We also carried out an activity where we looked carefully at a picture of the seaside, encouraging the children to detail and describe what they could see. This is a fantastic early literacy skill, and one easily practiced at home.

Creation of the week

Orlaith created this beautiful little scene from the tessellating shapes. ‘It is a home for the dinosaur with trees and plants for it to eat’.

Something to look forward to

We are excited about starting Spanish in our languages lesson after half term!
