This week we have been making the most of the weather with lots of water play interspersed with plenty of stories in the cool! Your little ones have done so well, despite the heat and have still had lots of fun! There was plenty of science in action with the water tray, a piece of guttering and some plastic piping – it really is the simple things!
The children have been working hard for their Prizegiving performance which we look forward to sharing with you on Saturday.
In music on Wednesday, we made a start learning the art of body percussion to some Disney classics which was very sweet to watch!
Book of the week and Phonics
This week we have been reading ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ by Giles Andreae, as we have been focused on all things under the sea as part of our topic work, It is an oldie but a goodie and the children love the rhyming prose and fun facts about the animals.
We extended this in to our phonics work, by asking the children to think of sea creatures starting with a particular initial sound. My suggestion of hippo was a little bit tenuous, but we all agreed that it worked!

The Floor is Lava
In PE on Wednesday, we got in the spirit of the weather with a game of The Floor is Lava! The children worked so hard and it was a great way to practice their skills for sports day. We definitely have some future long jumpers in our midst!

Ice alert!
We had an icy emergency on Thursday morning when we discovered a whole menagerie of polar animals frozen in the ice!
The children took the situation very seriously and showed amazing focus and determination to free all the creatures. They used a variety of tools, a great finger work out to help develop those all important fine motor skills. The tuff tray was the popular place to be and we were impressed by the sharing and kindness being shown – possibly partly due to how much they all enjoyed having their hands in the cool water!
