Counselling at Solefield

Systems of support

Sometimes children need a little extra emotional support and we are lucky to have trained staff and additional support from mental health professionals available in school.

Talk Time

Talk time is an intervention run by Mrs Koheji and Mrs Glennon Cousins who are both trained in Counselling children in schools (Level 3).

Talk time is a 30-minute session once a week with either Mrs Koheji or Mrs Glennon-Cousins. The sessions are focus on helping children overcome any worries or specific difficulties they are experiencing, such as negative thinking or friendship issues and to develop their resilience.

Play Therapy

We offer Therapeutic Play at Solefield, delivered by Therapeutic Play Practitioner, Rachel Valentine.

Therapeutic Play is a type of therapy where play and art materials are used for children to express themselves, especially if they are struggling to understand how they are feeling or are finding it hard to put their experiences into words.  It can be helpful for children in many situations, for example, if they have been through trauma or bereavement, if they are feeling anxious or low, or if they are having behavioural issues.

The 40-minute, one-to-one sessions aim to build the child’s ability to develop healthy and resilient relationships, and to work through difficult experiences which may be preoccupying them. Rachel is also a published children's author.

Amy's approach is to be creative, flexible and always respectful of the child's unique journey.
