Connected Learning

"I just wanted to feedback that I watched your English lesson yesterday with my son. I thought it was excellent. As good as being in the classroom! The power point and video of you worked so well. My son finished watching it enthused and ready to leap into action." Parent (comment from Summer Term, during school lockdown)

We were very proud of our connected learning provision during the summer term lockdown of school, which enabled us to provide a full timetable to all year groups and ensured the continued education of our boys.

We provided both group and 1:1 lessons, Zoom form times, show and tell, coffee mornings and extra pupil sessions, phone calls home, assemblies, clubs and a huge number of posts on social media to keep the community feeling connected every day.

The lesson delivery was through Teams, which allowed us to deliver differentiated appropriate tasks, live teacher sessions, pre-recorded lessons and instant feedback.

Here is an example of some of our provision:

In 5 days alone, pupils watched caterpillars grow, learnt about firefighters then & now, completed observational drawings and practised using money. They investigated electric shocks, made French monster sandwiches and completed PE exercises whilst following their teachers on the iPad. They designed teddy bear superheroes, listened to ‘ Stig of the Dump’ being read by their teacher, used Musescore and learnt about the evacuation of Dunkirk. They explored Pop Art and Picasso, completed a virtual tour of London, made a travel vlog about Pompeii, matched capital cities and statements and learnt how to edit videos. Boys found out about Mary Queen of Scots, investigated family in Shakespeare, practised using direct speech, cracked Maths and History codes, played Kahoots with their teachers, wrote their own mini sagas and devised articles for the Solefield Standard pupil’ led magazine. They explored the concept of charity, dressed up, played Cluedo and noughts and crosses and completed quizzes.

Here is a selection of a few quotes from parents from different year groups:

"I was so very impressed by the structure and content of the work that you are setting for them."

"Thank you so much for supporting the boys and all of us parents during this tricky period. It is very much appreciated."

"We have been really impressed by the positivity, adaptability and responsiveness of the Solefield staff, and appreciate all of your ongoing efforts."

"We wanted to write to thank you and the staff for all your hard work and commitment during these challenging times. Excellent."

We don’t know what the future might hold but at Solefield we are ready to continue our excellent teaching and learning provision, in and out of school premises.
