Under 10 Sutton Valence Rugby Tournament

by JWC

Last Friday the Under 10 A’s took part in the Sutton Valence Tournament. Mr Parker’s men started off with a rest, which meant that they would have to play 4 games in a row throughout the day. They spent their time wisely however, with boys scouting out the opposition's fixtures with meticulous attention to detail.

The day started with a tricky fixture against King's Rochester. A tight first half, saw the deadlock broken near the end of the game with Solefield running out the eventual winners with a 3-0 win.

Our second fixture was against Spring Grove. Once again, the boys defended with great hunger to keep the opposition out and played some sumptuous rugby to become 4-0 winners.

After a pleasant spot of lunch, the boys faced the very physical prospect of a large Ashford Prep side. The rugby played in this fixture was absolutely sensational. It was a real credit to the work going in on the training field. There were also excellent signs of the boys fighting for that Solefield logo and showing pride in the shirt. They kept their heads high, despite the best efforts of the opposition, to turn the game into the rugby version of trench warfare. At the final whistle, the boys deserved their 3-1 win and now faced the psychological test of knowing that they were one step away from Solefield Sporting Immortality – remaining unbeaten!

The last fixture was against a very skilful Sutton Valence Prep side, with lots of pace. The one test we had not overcome throughout the day. From the first whistle to the last the test never phased them. The boys were in the zone and once again came out in a fabulous performance in both defence and attack to win the game 3 tries to 1.

Our boys were very worthy winners of the Defensive Team of the Day and typified the fighting spirit that we are very proud to see....our very own ‘Invincibles'.
